Inbound Links

It’s becoming a familiar song.  Build links.  It’s not glamorous, nor quick.  It takes time for one link, but it still works.  Perhaps because it IS a bit tedious.

Organic search results are still the best for everyone’s Internet experience.  Recent tests say 88% of users never click on paid ads.  We’re still looking at the organic search results.  That means opportunity for small budgeted businesses.  Pay attention to your websites ranking organically.

If you don’t have a links page consider asking your web designer to create one and mange the links.  It’s important to make the links page part of your website, and not let it become a link farm, which will have an adverse effect on your website ranking.  Check each website you’re considering reciprocating links with, both aesthetically, but more importantly – industry related and their page ranking, make sure they are not a link farm.

When submitting your linking information they will want the anchor text (your business name most likely), a description (keep it short but keyword heavy) and  the page you want them to link to (typically your home page).

One small step at a time, but it works.

Drive your Website through directory listings.

Small Business Website Owners Can Compete.
Google your business name. You’ll likely find yourself in many directory sites. These often come up on top of regular searches.  Make use of them.

Create an account and “claim your listing”. Fill it out, and most importantly add your website.

While you may not have heard of Yelp! – they likely have you listed.

Where it’s offered – upload photos, fill in information. Tell people about your business. These listings free. Take advantage of them.

Google maps is a must-do.  Google has a wonderful added bonus – you may appear on someone else’s Google map.  Google offers other businesses similar to the one searched…so another way of being found.

This is time consuming – due to creating accounts, receiving the email to verify your email, etc.  If you don’t have time hire your son or family member. Make sure there are no typos. especially in the website address. You can also add keywords or categories. These are important and need to be well thought out.  Superpages allows multiple categories in their free listing.

It’s a beginning!

If you don’t have time I offer this to my clients.
